Gary Ruben Colon, known as Gar by his family, was born in Far Rockaway Queens New York in the summer of August 28th, 1982, to the loving parents of Carlos Ruben Colon and Tulsi (Savi) Jogie. Gary was the first born of a total of 5 siblings, Christopher Colon, Kevin O'Toole, Ashley O'Toole, Crystelia Taveras and Nastasha Colon. He also survives his stepparents Juan Garcia and Maritza Colon. His stepfather Micheal O'Toole has always held a special place in his heart, as he does in all of ours. Gary would often describe Mike as part of some of the best times of his childhood memories.
Gary's Journey started in Queens New York. In the summer of 1998, he, along with his father and brother Chris, left the big apple to start his life in New Orleans, where he finished his Highschool years. During these years Gary visited with his family in Puerto Rico during the summer breaks and spent a few years in Houston and eventually returned home to New York where he lived till he peacefully passed away on May 26th, 2024. He loved that New York lifestyle of traveling on the train, hailing cabs, and the sounds and sights of the city.
Gary, having no kids of his own, was truly an uncle to remember. He was active in all his nephews and nieces' lives throughout the years. He will always be loved and missed by them, Christian Colon, Ariana Colon, Gabriel O'Toole, Logan Muñoz, Liam Dominguez, and Noah Rivas. He shared so many moments with them throughout their childhood. Seeing them grow throughout the years and some into adulthood and was very proud of all of them. Sharing his passions with them was what life was about for Uncle Gary.
He loved unconditionally and wanted everyone to always have a good time. Loved reminiscing over the past... "Remember when", his famous words to the start of what you knew was a good story filled with wonderful times of the past... Everyone's life that Gary touched can always remember the adventures that Gary shared with them and would always carry with them. He never lived life to impress anyone, but wanting everyone to always eat, laugh, and just enjoy life... He was a simple man. He loved his comic books, his movies, novels, and games. He took every opportunity to share this love with whomever he could.
Mom (Savi) and Dad (Carlos), as a parent who has lost their precious Son, I can't imagine the pain, the emptiness, and the questions that linger. But we must remember that Gary is now in a place of peace and Love, free from suffering. His spirit will always be with us, and we must honor his memory by living our lives to the fullest.
