Jack Leff passed away September 28, 2021 at the young age of 92. He was a long-time resident of Inwood, NY for 50 years before moving to The Bristal in North Woodmere, NY in 2020. He was married for 53 years to the late Gertrude (Dunton) Leff and leaves behind two daughters: Leah Klein of Israel and Anne Leff who resides with her husband Peter Lloyd-Evans in Arlington, MA. He is also survived by nieces Sindee Manson of Bayside, NY, Wendy Manson of Commack, NY, and Nephew Scott Manson of Jacksonville, FL, as well as 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Jack graduated Far Rockaway High School in 1946 and attended Stewart Technical School where he studied aeronautical design. He was part of the design team for the first nuclear submarine, the U.S.S. Nautilus. He also worked as a civil engineer for the N.Y.C. Department of Water, Supply and Gas from 1963 until his retirement in 1992. Jack was a proud veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Army from 1951 to 1953 where he earned the Korean Service Bronze Star and the United Nations Service Medal. After returning stateside, he stayed in the Army Reserves for an additional five years. Jack remained an active member of veterans' organizations, serving in various leadership roles in the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Korean War Veterans Association. He was an animal lover and passionate fan of his favorite New York sports teams, the Yankees, Giants, and Islanders. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:15 AM on Monday October 4 at the Meserole Five Towns Funeral Home, 143 Lord Ave, Inwood NY. Internment will take place at the Calverton National Cemetery at 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a local animal charity or to rockandwrapitup.org, which supports a wide range of agencies including those that serve at-risk veterans and their families.
